Why Do Religious People Oppose Others Who Prefer Alternative Lifestyles?

I have one alternative lifestyle as opposed to the overwhelmingly majority of people in this world. One, I personally never want kids and am seeking a vasectomy. People act like it’s a sin and they say “God wants us to have children” or “The reason to get married is to have children”.
Why do these so-called religious people oppose other people who never wants kids? If I was to get a vasectomy, which would you recommend? A conventional or a no-scalpel?
Is it a sin to never procreate?

As a childfree Christian, I’m not opposed to getting a vasectomy. I do not have or want children. I will never have kids. I am engaged to a childfree person who is just as adamant as I am about not breeding. I also support personal liberty. People are free to live their lives however they wish, as long as they are not harming others.

I am NOT a religious person but I object to your wanting to get a vasectomy just based on the fact that you could one day meet the woman of your dreams and want to marry her and you may realize that you would want to raise kids together. I don’t think it’s your “purpose” or God will be “mad at you.” But you way someday find a wife and want to share more than just your lives together. Ultimately it’s your choice, and it is a reversible procedure I just wouldn’t step lightly into it.

i’m assuming your christian, since you didn’t specify and you’re talking about God and Sin (please forgive me if you’re not). As far as christianity goes, i don’t believe it’s a sin, especially since many people try to have kids and can’t. I mean, if you don’t want kids, it wouldn’t be fair to the kids to have them, because they wouldn’t be wanted or loved or anything. i think the vasectomy is a great way to go if its your choice, don’t let anyone bully you into or out of it. The reason to get married is NOT to have children, it’s to spend your life with someone you love.

It’s not a sin to procreate. Now, if you had of been religious then God would have wanted you to put him first and your life around him. Since your not religious its still not a sin. I personally think there is a lot of folks out there who do not need to be dads or moms. They don’t have enough patience, resent spending their money on kids, and some just don’t like kids. Why do we need to create another child into that kind of environment? If you want a vasectomy for whatever your reasons are…go get one. If your not a Christian or believer who believes in God…then reconsider your choices on that.

Many people are threatened by anybody that doesn’t follow their beliefs. They think they have it all right and everyone else is wrong. I think what you are talking about is more about society norms. It is changing though. When I was coming up people got married young now many don’t marry till they are in their 30s and many opt not to.

Because most religious institutions oppose personal choice and freedom.
