Passion Precedes Income

Bill Sweeps - $500 to Pay BillsDo you enjoy what you are doing for a living? Or more specifically are you passionate about what you are doing? Successful careers aren’t just built on education, they are more often built on passion.

I’m a software engineer by trade. I’m a passionate systems designer. I love automating any process. So what? Well, I’ve built a successful, 50 year successful career on my passion and drive without the benefit of a degree. How was this possible? Can you do it too? The answer is yes. IF you are passionate as well. IF you have what it takes.

If you are looking for a job, which many people are these days, focusing on income, then you will most likely stay in the ranks of the unemployed. What distinguishes you from the rest of the 25% that are unemployed? Read on and see.

“I need a job” is not going to cut it. Hunger puts you at a disadvantage. Are you hungry? Of course, but don’t show it. You passion to perform is an asset that any company cannot afford to pass up. Most companies of any worth will recognize this. The others will prey on your hunger and probably net you somewhere around minimum wage.

So what exactly is passion? Passion is that burning desire to make a difference. Like in relationships, passion will distinguish your desires from the masses; make you stand out. Passion will get you recognized as a contributor, not just a taker. Be that contributor.

Recently I was coaching a friend who was having her first job interviews. “Probably the best advice I can give you, ” I said, “is to present yourself in what you can do for the company.” This has been said over and over, most emphatically by JFK in his speech “… ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country…”. Powerful words that unfortunately have been lost in today’s liberal politics. Enough of that, this is about you.

You need to find your passion. Can you develop it? Yes and no. You can nurture and enhance it, but only after you discover it. I think passions are really discovered, not made. So where can you discover your passion?

Like any discovery, you need to explore. Try new things, read about new things. You are here on the internet. Don’t just waste the time here. Explore more… Your passion is waiting for you.

All the best to you.
