Ford Auto Tech-2002 Ford Escort-shift Lever Gets Stuck In Park-do I Need To Replace Lever?

there is a small hole on the upper right side that supposed to release. It did for a while but doesn’t now. i can spray some penetrating oil in that hole and it sometimes releases…….what can I do ? if you need a phone number to talk , just ask.

    disconnect the shift cable.see if it moves freely,i had one sieze up and had to replace it

    There is a shift interlock solenoid that stops working on those models after awhile (my guess is solenoid issues).. It can be changed as the solenoid itself, however it’s easier and actually cheaper (yes Ford is stupid) to replace the whole shifter assy… I can get a whole new assy for usually $30 more than just the solenoid…. On one car I actually got the shifter cheaper complete than the solenoid by itself.. go figure
    All you are doing is pushing down on a piece of plastic attached to that solenoid and moving it out the way to shift.. BTW
