I Had My First Sonogram Yesterday. The Tech. Said She Could Not Tell Me Anything. Is That Normal?

I asked if the measurements were ok and if everything looks normal and she just said “I can’t tell you anything you have to wait to talk to your doctor next week”. Now I am so nervous that something is wrong. If everything was normal wouldn’t she just say “everything looks great” I am a nervous wreck!!!

Totally normal. The technicians are not allowed to tell you anything. They give their notes and the pictures over to your doctor, who goes over them and gives you the news. It’s just like if you get your blood drawn at a separate lab – they give the results to your doctor, they don’t give them to you themselves.

This is normal, however, the tech told me the baby was measuring good, but at the same time, if there was anything wrong, your doctor would likely call you later that day. I guess it would depend on your doctor, but after my 19 week u/s my doctor called me at 10:45 PM to let me know I would need a level 2 u/s because the baby may have a hole in her heart. It shook me up, but luckily, the baby is very healthy, and no hole in her heart. So, I am pretty sure your doctor will call if anything is wrong. good luck and I hope that this assures you some!
