Just like on Vista, is there a way to have a gadgets on windows xp?

When i add gadgets it only gives me the basic google ones, which aren’t very good. Plus when i go to add more gadgets a greyish, blackish screen comes up with the basic gadgets, and i can’t seem to able to get anymore online, is it because my google desktop is not updated?
