The Nokia N96 series has been considered as the high end gadget and it is being watched as the most advanced mobile gadget of the world. It was introduced in the Mobile World Congress 2008, Barcelona, Spain, Finland and is being optimized for both video and television. It has a wide large screen 2.8” screen with an internal memory of 16 gigabytes and is even considered as the representative of a completely exciting and new chapter era in the field of mobile media. The estimated price for the mobile set is expected to be around 550 euros, before subsidies or taxes. The N96 is being considered as the super successor of N95 which held the high positing for convergence of Internet and mobility, and around 7 million sets of N95 were being sold. It completely changed the way a mobile device was being used by the people. Thus, the N96 has been built on the success story of the N95. This series is believed to hit the success story as the power of the Internet, Television and video have taken a prevalent position in the lives of most of the people. Thus, this N96 series being a multimedia system is sure to capture the minds of the people, in a great way. By most of the reviewers the Nokia N96 is been rated as the one and only personal window to entertainment and through this set, accessing internet videos will be really quick and quite simple. This multimedia system will be able to support right from starting the common video formats which will include MPEG-4, Windows Media Video and Flash Video and thus allow the favorite videos to be watched easily. As it has a USB 2.0 connection transferring and accessing video files is faster. It also has the support of both WLAN and HSDPA.

Saving our planet is important, but that doesn’t mean you have to live in a tree and forgo your gadget pleasures. There are plenty of gadgets out there that will help you live a greener life and while most LCD televisions don’t come with a way to turn them off you can get devices to help combat that. Here are some of my favourite ones.
Cranking MP3 player
With a 1GB capacity and a design that won’t win any red dot awards, the main USP for this new MP3 player is its green credentials. One minute’s worth of cranking will give you playback of 10 minutes – although there is USB charging too for when your arm gets tired. Including shipping, it’ll cost 55 euros, which is around 43 pounds, but consider what you’ll save on batteries.
Husqvarna solar powered automatic lawnmower
It might set you back a cool 2000 pounds but working autonomously, the lawnmower will cut up to 2300 square metres of grass and can be programmed to come on at certain times or days of the week. Users can define the cutting area by laying a metal wire around the edge of their garden. The auto mower also has sensors in the device so it can avoid garden furniture. Solving the problem of collecting the grass, the motor’s three sharp blades cut the grass short enough as to scatter it back on the lawn.
The mower will cut for around 40 minutes, and then charge for 40 minutes in its charging station, however the solar panels on its back mean that on a sunny day the device will be able to stay out cutting for up to 50% longer.
Efergy meter
The Efergy meter is a compact monitor that allows the user to see electricity consumption in real time in your home. Made up of three components: a portable display monitor, a sensor which is clipped around the power cable feeding electricity into the premises, and a transmitter which is connected to the sensor and which sends the information to the monitor the data on the screen of the Efergy meter is refreshed every 5 seconds, so the impact on power usage of turning an electrical appliance on or off can be seen immediately. The Efergy meter costs 44.95 pounds.
The Standby Buster
You want to turn your television off at the main, but the sockets at the back and out of the reach of your arm. The Stanby buster basically gives you a remote for your plug. The easy to use, remote-controlled electrical socket lets you switch off multiple appliances completely rather than leaving them in standby mode – all from a single button press. Sockets are simply plugged into existing power outlets allowing any connected appliances to be switched on and off using the remote control. Standby Buster uses Radio Frequency (RF) rather than Infra-Red (IR) to switch appliances on and off, so it is not impaired by objects in its way.
Moixa USBCELL batteries
The USBCELL as an environmentally-friendly alternative to normal AA batteries. The top of one side flips up to reveal a USB connector, and the battery simply plugs into an open port. It takes five hours to charge one of the cells if it was fully discharged; each battery has a capacity of 1300mAH. The USBCELL cost around 12.99 pounds for two AA batteries.

Ah gadgets, I love them, take something that can be done in a number of ways, find the most pointless way of doing it and there you have the making of a good gadget. Why for example would you want to open a bottle of wine with a bottle opener that will cost you 2pounds when you can also do it with one that costs 50 times as much, or maybe one that’s built into your sandal or belt buckle.
But gadgets aren’t just about helping you get your bottle of wine open. They come in all shapes and sizes and some would say that the term covers the entire consumer electronics field. I am a gadget lover, ie to love all things gadgety.
Here are some of my more favourite pointless gadgets at the moment.
Glow Tap
This little gizmo fits onto taps and has an internal switch that lights up a set of LEDs when you turn on your tap transforming the stream of water into a waterfall of light. Rather than just as aesthetic effect, there’s a temperature sensor within the unit that can tell whether the water is cold or hot, and changes the colour of the light accordingly.Complete with a set of universal adaptors for most size taps, the glow flow tap is available now for 14.99 pounds.
Ion iED05 USB drum kit
Aimed at both beginners and experienced drummers, the Ion iED05 drum kit is a digital set-up that connects to your PC via USB. All you have to do is simply connect the adjustable drum kit to your USB port and you will have access to over 200 drum sounds that will work with the velocity-sensitive drum pads and cymbals, which react accurately to every hit. The kit even includes video tutorial software and a drumming game to allow you to play along to music to improve your performance. The Ion iED05 costs 129.99 pounds.
Pleo
Pleo is the Robotic Camarasaurus Dinosaur from the co-creator of the Furby. The one-week old infant Camarasaurus from the late Jurassic period created by UGOBE (You Go Be) is an autonomous Life Form that advances through life stages and develops a unique personality through user interaction. Like Sony’s Aibo, if you treat him well and he’ll become friendly and outgoing, treat him badly and he’ll become timid or angry. Initially cautious, Pleo will walk around slowly to absorb his surroundings but may cry when frightened or scared. He will stretch when waking up and he may even stomp his foot if he gets angry. Man’s best friend had better watch out.
Star Trek “Communicator”
Flip up the grill, and you’ll be greeted with the lights and sounds Star Trek fans have come to know and love. As an added bonus, this replica is complete with voice clips from the actual series pre-loaded. Oh, what japes you’ll have listening to Spock ask you if you want an armed party beamed down, and just think of the thrills as you call the Enterprise and hear: “Bridge here, Captain”!
