Why Do New Gadgets Need To Charge Its Batteries At Least 8 Hours?

My collegue brought a new bluetooth set. The instructions ask her to charge the batteries at least 8 hours. Why? Does it really necessary?

    it is necessary. i don’t know all of the technical aspects of it but certain types of batteries have a type of “memory” if you give it a half charge the first time it will only charge halfway from then on out.
