One can do just about anything with a stove top\oven and a few pans but people buy all kinds of junky gadgets to do the same thing. Sandwich presses, electric griddles, electric roasters, electric steamers. All that stuff seems really silly to me.

You are right but people have the need to purchase new gadgets most of the time and some of it is only used a few times and then set aside until something else comes out ,some gadgets are used more than others and some go completely forgotten. This is part of curiosity and marketing has a lot to do with this, we see things on display or on TV and we have the desire to have them even if later on we will have no use for them. This is what keeps the economy going, if we buy we create jobs if we stop people are laid off and company will close ,so you see it’s a no win situation but if you really think about it it all make sense at the end.

Because it seems to make the kitchen. I love all my kitchen toys. I have a pannini press, bread maker (faster and easier), rice steamer (don’t use much unless my dogs are sick and I need a lot), deep fryer (my stove won’t heat oil to 375*)
But that’s all. Other things I have won’t take the place of my stove/oven like mixers and blenders. There’s a right tool for every job. Some of the gadgets just make my job cooking easier. I don’t get what I know the stove is better for.

People buy all that stuff to make their lives EASIER in the kitchen. We love the griddle to make pancakes and all.
Slow cookers to just throw stuff in and go on a busy day.
I would love a panini press for sandwiches. It give the boring old grilled sandwich a new flavor.
    Etc.
